BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT BLIND REHABILITATION PROGRAM (UJALA SCHOOL)

Although the re-rehabilitation program of blinds was included in the manifesto of EDO since its beginning, but due to vast and heavy work in the field of Eye Care of deserving patients like cataract surgeries, free eye camps in remote areas, free school eye camps, eye donation movement, corneal grafting etc., the matters of blinds were not being fully addressed. So that in the light of the above facts, we established another NGO as sister concerned with the name of “Ujala” to under take care of blinds, particularly for Taxila, Wah, Hassanabdal, and generally of its surrounding rural parts. “Ujala” was registered with Ministry of Social Welfare, Govt. of Punjab in March 2006. This is a vocational, educational & rehabilitation center for visually disabled. The Ujala Center is presently working at EDO Eye Hospital Gadwal under the command of EDO where 37 students of different age group are enrolled. It is worth mentioning here that in order to provide best quality education to blind students just to make them useful normal citizen of society, the unprecedented roll and contribution of Mrs. Ruqayya Hayat who had a vast experience in the field of education can never be forgotten.
